LaseMD Ultra by Cynosure Lutronic is a 1927 nm thulium laser. It treats tiny columns of skin while leaving the surrounding tissue intact, so skin renews from within with little interruption to your routine.
The 1927 nm wavelength targets the surface layers where sun damage and discoloration build up. It addresses visible pigment and supports the skin's natural renewal at the same time.

What LaseMD Ultra Treats
Sun Spots on the Face, Chest & Hands
Flat tan-to-brown spots (solar lentigines) caused by years of UV exposure. LaseMD Ultra's 1927 nm energy reaches the upper layers of skin where this pigment sits, so it can rise to the surface and shed over the following week.
Age Spots
Often appear after 40, especially in sunny climates like Southern California. Ultra treats them the same way, gradually lifting discoloration for a clearer, more even complexion.
Freckles
Ultra can soften freckles (ephelides) for a lighter, more uniform look while keeping your results natural.
Uneven Skin Tone & Sun Damage
Blotchy, mottled tone builds up from cumulative sun. Treating the whole area, not just individual spots, helps even out overall tone on the face, neck, chest and hands.
Dull, Rough Texture
As treated surface skin sheds, fresher skin is revealed, so your complexion feels smoother and looks brighter.
Actinic Keratoses
Rough, scaly patches caused by sun damage. Because they can be precancerous, every spot is evaluated by our physician before any treatment.
Melasma*
Symmetrical brown patches, often triggered by hormones and sun, that tend to recur. Published studies of 1927 nm fractional lasers have reported improvement. Treatment is approached cautiously, with daily sun protection and topical care.
Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation*
Dark marks left after acne, irritation or injury. Studies of non-ablative 1927 nm lasers have reported improvement, and your physician will determine whether Ultra is appropriate for you.
Thinning Hair & Hair Regrowth*
Ultra can be used on the scalp at gentle settings to create microscopic channels that help a professional K-beauty scalp serum, absorb where it's needed. Published studies of the 1927 nm thulium laser on the scalp, alone and combined with topical growth solutions, have reported improved hair density and thickness.
The Science of 1927 nm
01 Targets water in the skin
The 1927 nm wavelength is absorbed by water more strongly than classic non-ablative lasers, yet far less than ablative lasers like CO2. That keeps its energy concentrated in the upper layers, where sun damage and pigment sit.
02 Treats in microscopic columns
Energy is delivered in tiny treatment zones surrounded by untouched skin. This fractional approach allows faster healing and shorter downtime than fully ablative resurfacing.
03 Pigment rises and sheds
Over the following week, treated skin carrying excess pigment moves to the surface and flakes away. This is the temporary bronzed, sandpaper-like texture.
04 Fresh skin renews

Devices. LaseMD Ultra, XERF and K-LUXE are Cynosure Lutronic technologies and trademarks. The Ultra aesthetic workstation is indicated for dermatological procedures requiring the coagulation of soft tissue; treatment of actinic keratosis; and treatment of benign pigmented lesions, including lentigos (age spots), solar lentigos (sun spots) and ephelides (freckles). The XERF device is intended for use in dermatologic and general surgical procedures for electrocoagulation and hemostasis. K-LUXE is a treatment program that combines two separately cleared devices.
*Uses outside FDA clearance. LaseMD Ultra is not FDA-cleared for melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hair regrowth. Some studies referenced on this page used other 1927 nm devices. Any such use is at the treating physician's discretion after an individual evaluation.
Topical products. Scalp treatments may include Celexo, a professional Korean scalp care product. Topical products used with treatment have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA to treat hair loss.
